The best time to visit Normandy for the D-Day beaches is May to September, when the museums keep long hours and the days are mild. Early June is the busiest week. Book your Normandy reservation early for summer, and read on for what closes, and when, in 2026 and 2027.

If you want mild weather and every museum open, come between May and September. If you want quiet sites and a cheaper abbey ticket, come in October.
The landings took place on 6 June 1944, and the anniversary brings ceremonies, veterans' groups and crowds. Bayeux and the coast fill up for the whole week. You get the strongest sense of the day, and the hardest time finding a room.
If you come then, book your tour and your hotel months ahead. Expect roads to close for ceremonies, and allow extra time between stops. For a calmer visit with the same long days, come in the second half of June.
July and August are the warmest months, with highs of about 23 °C at Caen. July is the sunniest month, with over 218 hours of sun. The museums keep their longest hours: the Overlord Museum and the Juno Beach Centre open until 7 pm.
In summer 2026, the cemetery ran free guided tours daily from the overlook, in English at 11 am and 2 pm. No booking was needed. Check the cemetery's page for the next season's times.
Compare the D-Day and Mont-Saint-Michel days, and book early for June to August.
September is still mild, at about 20 °C by day, and the crowds thin. The Juno Beach Centre keeps its bunker tours going until October.
On 1 October 2026 the Mont-Saint-Michel abbey drops its adult ticket from €16 to €13. Its hours, 9:30 am to 6 pm, have been in place since 1 September. Note that the abbey is closed on Sunday 4 October 2026 for a festival. October is also when the rain returns, on about 12 days.
From November to February, days are short and cold, with highs of 8 to 12 °C. The beaches, Pointe du Hoc and the cemetery stay open all winter. The cemetery closes only on 25 December and 1 January.
Several museums take a winter break. The Overlord Museum shuts from 4 January to 12 February. The Juno Beach Centre and the Arromanches museum close in January. If you come in January, choose a tour that does not rest on those museums.
Normandy gets rain all year. At Caen, it rains on about one day in three over the year, and on about one day in four even in July. October to December is the wettest and windiest quarter.
